Visual Artist | Filmmaker | Traditional + Digital

We are a nêhiyaw / Cree Woodland art studio, sharing cultural stories through art, design and film. Owner, Bree Island, is a tribal member of the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation, Treaty 8.

Bree is an emerging director/writer and visual artist. An unsettled and unapologetic matriarch with deep ancestral roots, unleashing her creativity at the intersection of art and technology, and the traditional and digital. Much of Bree’s creative energy is focused on reclaiming cultural knowledge, weaving stories old and new, decolonizing spaces, and imagining Indigenous futurisms. Her work is a response to increasing Indigenous access to their ancestral stories and creating art in motion to show that Indigenous peoples exist as living, breathing, and vibrant cultures.

Bree is also a practicing Woodland artist and her art is an intimate sharing of nêhiyaw / Cree worldviews and teachings, and honours connections to land and spirit. Bree’s mindful creative practice is rooted in ensuring that no matter what the future looks like, we bring our Indigenous values and ancestral knowledge with us. Bree is the owner of Mixed Creatives, a visual arts studio. They specialize in VFX/CGI, 2d/3d animation and motion graphics for commercial and film/tv.
